The Independent Hull and Machinery Consultancy

Marine Surveyors and Consultants

IHMCo is dedicated to serving the maritime industry with qualified opinion and expert advice

IHMCo began as a marine consultancy in early 2014, when ex-chief engineer and technical superintendent Ieuan (Ian) Dolby recognized that a large gap existed for qualified marine engineering technical advice; at least for those who can prepare clear and concise expert reports for the claims handlers, owners, lawyers and adjusters reading them.

Apart from his sea and superintendency career, Ieuan spent considerable time in Singapore and Hong Kong as a marine consultant / principal surveyor with large, internationally focused, marine consultancies. He has continually been providing expert advice on a variety of vessel and port incidents, from routine engine failures, to constructive total loss (CTL) assessments and he has attended in court as an expert on a number of occasions. Throughout his active career as a surveyor and consultant, Ieuan has investigated and assisted to mitigate numerous issues after major casualties have occurred, e.g. collisions, flooding, fire damage and groundings, and he has assessed the cause, nature and extent of hundreds of hull damage, machinery and equipment failure cases, for P&I, Owner, Charterer and H&M interests.

With his immense knowledge and ability, experience and valued output Ieuan continues his excellent work worldwide and from his base in Dundee, Scotland. He is currently involved in vessel survey, provision of expert opinion to marine lawyers and is providing expert advice to adjusters on an assortment of marine engineering cases.
